Mount Langi Ghiran, Spinoff Skin Contact Riesling 2017 Visit Website

Set against the dramatic backdrop of the Great Dividing Range in the Grampians region of Victoria, the Mount Langi Ghiran vineyard is one of the most isolated and unique sites in Australian viticulture.

The winemaking team is very fortunate to have great grapes to turn into wine. The Old Block Shiraz planted in 1963, source to the iconic LangiShiraz, forms some of the oldest and purest Shiraz clonal material anywhere in the world. This unique fruit perfectly matched with the Grampians’ cool climate and the ancient granitic soil of the vineyard, produces the spicy, pepper characteristics for which Langi has become renowned.

Each generation of winemakers to arrive at Mount Langi Ghiran have built on foundations laid down by earlier hands. Each of them brings innovation, fresh ideas and a more contemporary approach to winemaking. The recent release of a new wine, the already acclaimed Talus Shiraz, expresses this so well. Talus might be a new wine, but it has only been made possible through progress, as a result of ongoing endeavours to better understand Mount Langi Ghiran’s vines and site. This desire to create wines that express all the diversity of Langi’s terroir is also captured in the Spinoff range. Spinoff is a range where winemakers experiment with skin contact, carbonic maceration, uncanny blends and alternative varieties always crafting unconventional wines for Mount Langi Ghiran.
